The Chess Table was the next project developed under Third Half. Following From a Shed in LA, we wanted to push beyond the idea of screen printing as something limited to garments and explore how those same tools could exist in physical form.
The project developed through an R&D process focused on material and structure—using elements from our screen printing setup alongside epoxy and hardware to create a fully functional table. Working within what we already had forced each decision to be considered, from stability to proportion.
To contextualize the piece, we began spending time at a chess club in downtown Los Angeles. The uniformity of black and white boards informed the final direction, making it natural to place the table within that environment—where the object could exist as both a functional piece and an extension of the system it came from.
